From ‘The One I Love’ an exhibition at Free Space exploring the relationship people with chronic invisible illnesses have with their pets.
“She was so scared but I loved her the minute I saw her, I knew she was mine from the word go. It took me three years to find the right dog but it worked out wonderfully in the end. My physical health was failing. I looked at her and thought she is my Maude.
When she first came she was in a bad way and had been living on the streets. She immediately bonded with me so we became each other’s protector straight away. We’re super bonded, I understand every ounce of her body language. We’re our own family unit. She’s very much my unofficial service dog. She’s my darling.”
